A stethoscope is a medical instrument used to auscultate (take heed to) sounds produced by the guts, lungs, and different inner organs. It consists of a chestpiece, tubing, and earpieces. The chestpiece is positioned on the pores and skin over the organ being examined, and the earpieces are positioned within the examiner’s ears.
The stethoscope was invented in 1816 by Ren Laennec, a French doctor. Laennec was inspecting a younger girl with coronary heart issues, and he was hesitant to position his ear immediately on her chest due to her modesty. As a substitute, he rolled up a bit of paper and positioned it on her chest, after which he listened to her coronary heart via the paper. He discovered that he may hear her coronary heart sounds extra clearly than he may along with his ear immediately on her chest.
